[1521] A phenomenon (dhamma) that is clung-to and subject to clinging (upādinnupādāniya) is a condition for a phenomenon that is not clung-to but subject to clinging (anupādinnupādāniya) by decisive-support condition (upanissaya-paccaya): object decisive-support (ārammaṇūpanissaya), proximity decisive-support (anantarūpanissaya), natural decisive-support (pakatūpanissaya). Natural decisive-support: Depending on bodily pleasure (kāyika sukha), one gives a gift (dāna), undertakes virtue (sīla), performs the uposatha observance (uposathakamma), produces jhāna, produces insight (vipassanā), produces superknowledge (abhiññā), produces an attainment (samāpatti), kills a living being, causes schism in the Saṅgha. Depending on bodily pain (kāyika dukkha) … climate (utu) … food (bhojana), one gives a gift, causes schism in the Saṅgha. Bodily pleasure … bodily pain, climate … food is a condition for faith (saddhā) that is not clung-to but subject to clinging, for virtue, for learning (suta), for generosity (cāga), for wisdom (paññā), for lust (rāga), for hatred (dosa), for delusion (moha), for conceit (māna), for wrong view (diṭṭhi), and for aspiration (patthanā), by decisive-support condition.
