[554] An indeterminate phenomenon (abyākata dhamma) is a condition for a wholesome phenomenon (kusala dhamma) by way of decisive-support condition (upanissaya-paccaya): object decisive-support (ārammaṇūpanissaya), proximity decisive-support (anantarūpanissaya), natural decisive-support (pakatūpanissaya). Object decisive-support: Learners (sekhā), having esteemed the fruition (phala), review it; having esteemed Nibbāna, they review it. Nibbāna is a condition for change-of-lineage (gotrabhū), for purification (vodāna), and for the path (magga) by way of decisive-support condition. Proximity decisive-support: Adverting (āvajjanā) is a condition for the wholesome aggregates (khandha) by way of decisive-support condition. Natural decisive-support: In dependence on bodily pleasure (kāyika sukha), one gives a gift (dāna), undertakes virtue (sīla), performs the uposatha observance (uposatha-kamma), gives rise to jhāna, gives rise to insight (vipassanā), gives rise to the path, gives rise to superknowledge (abhiññā), gives rise to attainment (samāpatti). In dependence on bodily pain (kāyika dukkha) … temperature (utu) … food (bhojana) … lodging (senāsana), one gives a gift, undertakes virtue, performs the uposatha observance, gives rise to jhāna, gives rise to insight, gives rise to the path, gives rise to superknowledge, gives rise to attainment. Bodily pleasure … bodily pain, temperature, food … lodging is a condition for faith (saddhā), for virtue, for learning (suta), for generosity (cāga), and for wisdom (paññā) by way of decisive-support condition.
