[555] An indeterminate phenomenon (abyākata dhamma) is a condition for an unwholesome phenomenon (akusala dhamma) by decisive-support condition (upanissaya-paccaya): object decisive-support (ārammaṇūpanissaya), proximity decisive-support (anantarūpanissaya), natural decisive-support (pakatūpanissaya).
Object decisive-support: Having given weight to the eye (cakkhu), one relishes it, delights in it; having given weight to it, lust (rāga) arises, wrong view (diṭṭhi) arises. The ear … the nose, the tongue, the body, forms, sounds, odours, tastes, tangible objects … the base (vatthu), the resultant-indeterminate (vipāka) and functional-indeterminate (kiriyā) aggregates (khandhā): having given weight to these, one relishes them, delights in them; having given weight to that, lust arises, wrong view arises.
Proximity decisive-support: Adverting (āvajjanā) is a condition for the unwholesome aggregates by decisive-support condition.
Natural decisive-support: In dependence on bodily pleasure (sukha), one kills a living being, takes what is not given, speaks falsely, speaks divisively, speaks harshly, chatters frivolously, breaks into houses, carries off plunder, plunders a single house, lies in wait on the highway, goes to another's wife, slaughters a village, slaughters a market town, deprives his mother of life, deprives his father of life, deprives an Arahant of life, with a malicious mind (citta) sheds the blood of the Tathāgata, causes schism in the Saṅgha. In dependence on bodily pain (dukkha) … climate (utu) … food … lodging, one kills a living being. (Abridged.) One causes schism in the Saṅgha.
Bodily pleasure … bodily pain, climate, food … lodging is a condition for lust, for hatred (dosa), for delusion (moha), for conceit (māna), for wrong view, for wish (patthanā), by decisive-support condition.
