[1266] A neither-trainee-nor-non-trainee phenomenon (nevasekkhanāsekkha dhamma) is a condition for a neither-trainee-nor-non-trainee phenomenon by decisive-support condition (upanissaya-paccaya): object decisive-support (ārammaṇūpanissaya), proximity decisive-support (anantarūpanissaya), natural decisive-support (pakatūpanissaya).
Natural decisive-support: In dependence on neither-trainee-nor-non-trainee faith (saddhā), one gives a gift (dāna), virtue (sīla) … the uposatha observance (uposathakamma) … jhāna … insight (vipassanā) … superknowledge (abhiññā) … produces an attainment (samāpatti); one conceives conceit (māna), a view (diṭṭhi) …
In dependence on neither-trainee-nor-non-trainee virtue … wisdom (paññā), lust (rāga), delusion (moha), bodily pleasure (kāyika sukha), season (utu), food (bhojana) … lodging (senāsana), one gives a gift, virtue … produces an attainment; one kills a living being, causes a schism in the Saṅgha.
Neither-trainee-nor-non-trainee faith … wisdom, lust, longing (patthanā), bodily pleasure … lodging are a condition for neither-trainee-nor-non-trainee faith, for wisdom, for lust, for longing, for bodily pleasure, for bodily pain (kāyika dukkha), by decisive-support condition.
The preliminary work (parikamma) for the first jhāna is a condition for the first jhāna by decisive-support condition; the preliminary work for the sphere of neither-perception-nor-non-perception (nevasaññānāsaññāyatana) is a condition for the sphere of neither-perception-nor-non-perception. The first jhāna is a condition for the second jhāna by decisive-support condition; the sphere of nothingness (ākiñcaññāyatana) is a condition for the sphere of neither-perception-nor-non-perception by decisive-support condition.
