Abhidhammapiṭaka · Paṭṭhāna (2) · Vol. 41 · Section 2086

[2086] An internal phenomenon (ajjhatto dhammo) is a condition for an external phenomenon (bahiddhā dhammo) by decisive-support condition (upanissaya-paccaya) — object decisive-support (ārammaṇūpanissaya), natural decisive-support (pakatūpanissaya). Natural decisive-support: Another person, in dependence on internal faith (saddhā), gives a gift (dāna) … conceives conceit (māna), grasps a view (diṭṭhi). Another person, in dependence on internal virtue (sīla) … lodging (senāsana), gives a gift … kills a living being, causes schism in the Saṅgha. Internal faith … lodging is a condition for external faith, for the path (magga), for the attainment of fruition (phala-samāpatti), by decisive-support condition.
