[256] A phenomenon with initial application (vitakka) and sustained application (vicāra), and a phenomenon without initial application but with sustained application only, and a phenomenon without initial application and without sustained application—[these] phenomena (dhammā)—are a condition, by mutuality condition (aññamañña-paccaya), for a phenomenon with initial application and sustained application. At the moment of rebirth-linking (paṭisandhi), one aggregate (khandha) with initial application and sustained application, and initial application, and the base (vatthu) are a condition, by mutuality condition, for three aggregates; two aggregates, and initial application, and the base are a condition, by mutuality condition, for two aggregates.
