[258] A phenomenon (dhamma) without applied thought and without sustained thought (avitakka-avicāra) is a condition, by dependence condition (nissaya-paccaya), for a phenomenon without applied thought and without sustained thought. One aggregate (khandha) without applied thought and without sustained thought is a condition, by dependence condition, for three aggregates and for the mind-originated forms (cittasamuṭṭhāna-rūpa); two aggregates are a condition, by dependence condition, for two aggregates and for the mind-originated forms; sustained thought (vicāra) is a condition, by dependence condition, for the mind-originated forms. At the moment of rebirth-linking (paṭisandhikkhaṇa), one aggregate without applied thought and without sustained thought is a condition, by dependence condition, for three aggregates and for the forms produced by kamma (kaṭattā-rūpa); two aggregates [are a condition] for two aggregates … (Abbreviated.)
