[710] A phenomenon (dhamma) to be abandoned by seeing (dassanena pahātabba) is [a condition] for a phenomenon to be abandoned neither by seeing nor by development (neva dassanena na bhāvanāya pahātabba) … proximity decisive support (anantarūpanissaya), natural decisive support (pakatūpanissaya).
Natural decisive support: In dependence on lust (rāga) to be abandoned by seeing, one gives a gift (dāna), undertakes virtue (sīla), performs the uposatha observance (uposathakamma). (Abbreviated.) One gives rise to an attainment (samāpatti).
In dependence on hatred (dosa) to be abandoned by seeing … on aspiration (patthanā), one gives a gift … one gives rise to an attainment.
Lust to be abandoned by seeing … hatred, delusion (moha), wrong view (diṭṭhi) … aspiration is a condition for faith (saddhā), for wisdom (paññā), for bodily pleasure (kāyika sukha), for bodily pain (kāyika dukkha), for the attainment of fruition (phalasamāpatti), by decisive-support condition (upanissaya-paccaya).
