[922] A phenomenon (dhamma) whose root is to be abandoned by seeing (dassanena-pahātabbahetuka) is a condition for a phenomenon whose root is to be abandoned neither by seeing nor by development (neva-dassanena-na-bhāvanāya-pahātabbahetuka) by way of decisive-support condition (upanissaya-paccaya): proximity decisive support (anantarūpanissaya), natural decisive support (pakatūpanissaya).
Natural decisive support: In dependence on lust (rāga) whose root is to be abandoned by seeing, one gives a gift (dāna) … gives rise to an attainment (samāpatti). In dependence on hatred (dosa) whose root is to be abandoned by seeing … delusion (moha) … wrong view (diṭṭhi) … longing (patthanā), one gives a gift … gives rise to an attainment. Lust whose root is to be abandoned by seeing … longing is a condition for faith (saddhā), for wisdom (paññā), for bodily pleasure (kāyika sukha), for bodily pain (kāyika dukkha), for the attainment of fruition (phala-samāpatti), and for delusion by way of decisive-support condition.
