[20] A root (hetu) phenomenon (dhamma) is a condition (paccaya) for a root phenomenon by immediacy condition (anantara-paccaya): preceding roots are a condition for subsequent roots by immediacy condition. A root phenomenon is a condition for a non-root (nahetu) phenomenon by immediacy condition: preceding roots are a condition for subsequent non-root aggregates (khandhā) by immediacy condition. A root phenomenon is a condition for a root phenomenon and a non-root phenomenon by immediacy condition: preceding roots are a condition for subsequent roots and the associated (sampayuttaka) aggregates by immediacy condition. A non-root phenomenon is a condition for a non-root phenomenon by immediacy condition: preceding non-root aggregates are a condition for subsequent non-root aggregates by immediacy condition; conformity (anuloma) [is a condition] for change-of-lineage (gotrabhū)… (abridged) …The sphere of neither-perception-nor-non-perception (nevasaññānāsaññāyatana) is a condition for the attainment of fruition (phalasamāpatti) by immediacy condition.
