[19] A root phenomenon (hetu dhamma) is a condition (paccaya) for a root phenomenon by predominance condition (adhipati-paccaya): object-predominance (ārammaṇādhipati), conascence-predominance (sahajātādhipati). Object-predominance: having given weight to a root (as object), roots arise. Conascence-predominance: a predominant (adhipati) root is a condition for the associated (sampayuttaka) roots by predominance condition. A root phenomenon is a condition for a non-root phenomenon (na-hetu dhamma) by predominance condition: object-predominance, conascence-predominance. Object-predominance: having given weight to a root (as object), non-root aggregates (khandhā) arise. Conascence-predominance: a predominant root is a condition for the associated aggregates and for mind-originated forms (cittasamuṭṭhāna-rūpa) by predominance condition. A root phenomenon is a condition for a root phenomenon and a non-root phenomenon by predominance condition: object-predominance, conascence-predominance. Object-predominance: having given weight to a root (as object), roots and the associated aggregates arise. Conascence-predominance: a predominant root is a condition for the associated aggregates, for the roots, and for mind-originated forms by predominance condition. A non-root phenomenon is a condition for a non-root phenomenon by predominance condition: object-predominance, conascence-predominance. Object-predominance: [the passage] "having given a gift (dāna)" should be expanded as far as "non-root aggregates." Conascence-predominance: a predominant non-root is a condition for the associated aggregates and for mind-originated forms by predominance condition. A non-root phenomenon is a condition for a root phenomenon by predominance condition: object-predominance, conascence-predominance. Object-predominance: having given a gift … (abridged) — it should be carried out as far as "the base (vatthu) and non-root aggregates." Conascence-predominance: a predominant non-root is a condition for the associated roots by predominance condition. A non-root phenomenon is a condition for a root phenomenon and a non-root phenomenon by predominance condition: object-predominance, conascence-predominance. Object-predominance: having given a gift, virtue (sīla) … the uposatha observance (uposathakamma) …, giving weight to that (as object), one reviews it; having given weight to that (as object), non-root aggregates and roots arise. [The passage] "deeds formerly well practiced" should be carried out as far as "the base and non-root aggregates." Conascence-predominance: a predominant non-root is a condition for the associated aggregates, for the roots, and for mind-originated forms by predominance condition.
