[203] A visible phenomenon (sanidassana-dhamma) is a condition for an invisible phenomenon (anidassana-dhamma) by object condition (ārammaṇa-paccaya): [One contemplates] visible form (rūpa) as impermanent … grief (domanassa) arises. With the divine eye … The form base (rūpāyatana) is a condition for eye-consciousness (cakkhu-viññāṇa) by object condition. The visible aggregates (khandhā) are a condition for the knowledge of supernormal powers (iddhividha-ñāṇa), for the knowledge of the recollection of past lives (pubbenivāsānussati-ñāṇa), for the knowledge of the future (anāgataṃsa-ñāṇa), and for adverting (āvajjana), by object condition.
An invisible phenomenon is a condition for an invisible phenomenon by object condition: A gift (dāna) … virtue (sīla) … the uposatha observance (uposathakamma) … one reviews it. One reviews [deeds] formerly well practiced. Having emerged from jhāna, one reviews the jhāna. The noble ones, having emerged from the path (magga), review the path; they review the fruit; they review Nibbāna. Nibbāna is a condition for change-of-lineage (gotrabhū), for cleansing (vodāna), for the path, for the fruit, and for adverting, by object condition. The noble ones review the defilements (kilesa) that have been abandoned; [they review] the defilements that have been suppressed …; formerly … The eye … the body, sounds, the base (vatthu) … [one contemplates] the invisible aggregates as impermanent … grief arises. One hears a sound with the divine ear element. By the knowledge penetrating the minds of others (cetopariya-ñāṇa) one knows the mind (citta) of a person possessing an invisible mind. The sphere of the infinity of space (ākāsānañcāyatana) [is a condition] for the sphere of the infinity of consciousness (viññāṇañcāyatana), the sphere of nothingness (ākiñcaññāyatana) for the sphere of neither perception nor non-perception (nevasaññānāsaññāyatana), the sound base (saddāyatana) for ear-consciousness (sota-viññāṇa), the tangible-object base (phoṭṭhabbāyatana) for body-consciousness (kāya-viññāṇa); the invisible aggregates are a condition for the knowledge of supernormal powers, for the knowledge penetrating the minds of others, for the knowledge of the recollection of past lives, for the knowledge of faring according to kamma (yathākammūpaga-ñāṇa), for the knowledge of the future, and for adverting, by object condition.
