[257] Dependent on (paṭicca) a material phenomenon (rūpī dhamma), a material phenomenon arises by not-root condition (na-hetupaccaya): three (questions).
Dependent on an immaterial phenomenon (arūpī dhamma), an immaterial phenomenon arises by not-root condition: dependent on one rootless (ahetuka) immaterial aggregate (khandha), three aggregates (arise); (dependent on) two aggregates … at the moment of rootless rebirth-linking (ahetuka-paṭisandhikkhaṇa). Dependent on aggregates accompanied by doubt (vicikicchāsahagata), accompanied by restlessness (uddhaccasahagata), there arises delusion (moha) accompanied by doubt, accompanied by restlessness.
Under not-root condition there are nine questions (pañhā); (in each) it is to be specified as "rootless."
