[409] A phenomenon (dhamma) that is both a taint (āsava) and associated with taints is a condition, by root condition (hetu-paccaya), for a phenomenon that is both a taint and associated with taints: three (ways). A phenomenon that is associated with taints but not a taint is a condition, by root condition, for a phenomenon that is associated with taints but not a taint: roots (hetū) that are associated with taints but not taints are a condition, by root condition, for the associated aggregates (khandhā).
