[418] Dependent on a phenomenon (dhamma) that is a fetter (saññojana), a phenomenon that is a fetter arises by root condition (hetu-paccaya): dependent on the fetter of sensual lust (kāmarāga-saññojana), [there arise] the fetter of view (diṭṭhi-saññojana) and the fetter of ignorance (avijjā-saññojana); dependent on the fetter of sensual lust, the fetter of adherence to rules and rituals (sīlabbataparāmāsa-saññojana) and the fetter of ignorance; dependent on the fetter of sensual lust, the fetter of conceit (māna-saññojana) and the fetter of ignorance; dependent on the fetter of sensual lust, the fetter of ignorance; dependent on the fetter of repulsion (paṭigha-saññojana), the fetter of envy (issā-saññojana) and the fetter of ignorance; dependent on the fetter of repulsion, the fetter of avarice (macchariya-saññojana) and the fetter of ignorance; dependent on the fetter of repulsion, the fetter of ignorance; dependent on the fetter of conceit, the fetter of lust for existence (bhavarāga-saññojana) and the fetter of ignorance; dependent on the fetter of lust for existence, the fetter of ignorance; dependent on the fetter of doubt (vicikicchā-saññojana), the fetter of ignorance. Dependent on a phenomenon that is a fetter, a phenomenon that is not a fetter arises by root condition: dependent on the fetters, [there arise] the associated aggregates (khandhā) and mind-originated form (cittasamuṭṭhāna-rūpa). Dependent on a phenomenon that is a fetter, a phenomenon that is a fetter and a phenomenon that is not a fetter arise by root condition: dependent on the fetter of sensual lust, [there arise] the fetter of view, the fetter of ignorance, the associated aggregates, and mind-originated form. The cycle (cakka) should be bound. Dependent on a phenomenon that is not a fetter, a phenomenon that is not a fetter arises by root condition: dependent on one aggregate that is not a fetter, [there arise] three aggregates and mind-originated form; dependent on two aggregates … At the moment of rebirth-linking (paṭisandhi), dependent on the aggregates, the base (vatthu); dependent on the base, the aggregates; [dependent on] one great element (mahābhūta) …; dependent on the great elements, mind-originated form and kamma-born form (kaṭattārūpa) — derived form (upādārūpa). Dependent on a phenomenon that is not a fetter, a phenomenon that is a fetter arises by root condition: dependent on the aggregates that are not fetters, [there arise] the fetters.
