[547] A phenomenon (dhamma) associated with ties (gantha-sampayutta) is a condition for a phenomenon associated with ties by object condition (ārammaṇa-paccaya):
Taking as object aggregates (khandhā) associated with ties, there arise aggregates associated with ties.
In all three (sections) the roots should be asked.
Taking as object aggregates associated with ties, there arise aggregates dissociated from ties (gantha-vippayutta).
Taking as object aggregates associated with ties, there arise aggregates accompanied by greed (lobha) dissociated from wrong view (diṭṭhigata-vippayutta), and greed; there arise aggregates accompanied by grief (domanassa), and aversion (paṭigha).
A phenomenon dissociated from ties is a condition for a phenomenon dissociated from ties by object condition:
Having given a gift (dāna), … virtue (sīla) … the uposatha observance (uposathakamma) … one reviews it. One reviews what was formerly well practised. Having emerged from jhāna, one reviews the jhāna.
The noble ones, having emerged from the path (magga), review the path; they review the fruit (phala); they review Nibbāna. Nibbāna is a condition for change-of-lineage (gotrabhū), for cleansing (vodāna), for the path, for the fruit, and for adverting (āvajjana) by object condition. The noble ones review the abandoned defilements (kilesa) that are dissociated from ties; they review the suppressed defilements; they know the defilements formerly indulged in.
One sees with insight the eye (cakkhu) … the base (vatthu) … the aggregates dissociated from ties, and greed, and aversion, as impermanent …; one relishes and delights (in them). Taking that as object, there arises lust (rāga) dissociated from ties; doubt (vicikicchā) … restlessness (uddhacca) … grief arises.
With the divine eye one sees a form; with the divine ear element one hears a sound; by the knowledge (ñāṇa) of penetration of the minds of others (cetopariya-ñāṇa) one knows the mind (citta) of one possessing a mind dissociated from ties.
The sphere of infinity of space (ākāsānañcāyatana) is a condition, by object condition, for the sphere of infinity of consciousness (viññāṇañcāyatana); the sphere of nothingness (ākiñcaññāyatana) for the sphere of neither perception nor non-perception (nevasaññānāsaññāyatana); the form base (rūpāyatana) for eye-consciousness; the tangible base (phoṭṭhabbāyatana) for body-consciousness.
Aggregates dissociated from ties are a condition for the knowledge of supernormal powers (iddhividha-ñāṇa), for the knowledge of penetration of the minds of others, for the knowledge of recollection of past lives (pubbenivāsānussati-ñāṇa), for the knowledge of (beings') faring according to their kamma (yathākammūpaga-ñāṇa), for the knowledge of the future (anāgataṃsa-ñāṇa), and for adverting, by object condition.
A phenomenon dissociated from ties is a condition for a phenomenon associated with ties by object condition: a gift … virtue … the uposatha observance … one relishes and delights in it. Taking that as object, there arises lust associated with ties; wrong view (diṭṭhi) … grief arises.
A phenomenon dissociated from ties is a condition for a phenomenon associated with ties and for a phenomenon dissociated from ties by object condition: taking as object the eye … the base … the aggregates dissociated from ties, and greed, and aversion, there arise aggregates accompanied by greed dissociated from wrong view, and greed; there arise aggregates accompanied by grief, and aversion.
A phenomenon associated with ties and a phenomenon dissociated from ties are a condition for a phenomenon associated with ties by object condition: taking as object aggregates accompanied by greed dissociated from wrong view, and greed, and aggregates accompanied by grief, and aversion, there arise aggregates associated with ties.
The root should be asked. Taking as object aggregates accompanied by greed dissociated from wrong view, and greed, and aggregates accompanied by grief, and aversion, there arise aggregates dissociated from ties.
