[604] A hindrance phenomenon (nīvaraṇa dhamma) is a condition, by presence condition (atthi-paccaya), for a hindrance phenomenon: the hindrance of sensual desire (kāmacchanda-nīvaraṇa) is a condition, by presence condition, for the hindrance of dullness and drowsiness (thīna-middha-nīvaraṇa), for the hindrance of restlessness (uddhacca-nīvaraṇa), for the hindrance of ignorance (avijjā-nīvaraṇa). The cycle (cakka). A hindrance phenomenon is a condition, by presence condition, for a non-hindrance phenomenon (no-nīvaraṇa dhamma): conascence (sahajāta), postnascence (pacchājāta). Thus, in the [section with a] hindrance as root, there are three [cases].
