[642] A phenomenon (dhamma) that is both a hindrance (nīvaraṇa) and favorable to hindrances (nīvaraṇiya) is a condition for a phenomenon that is both a hindrance and favorable to hindrances by root condition (hetu-paccaya): roots (hetū) that are both hindrances and favorable to hindrances are a condition for the associated (sampayuttaka) hindrances by root condition. A phenomenon that is both a hindrance and favorable to hindrances is a condition for a phenomenon that is favorable to hindrances but not a hindrance by root condition: roots that are both hindrances and favorable to hindrances are a condition for the associated aggregates (khandhā) and for mind-originated forms (cittasamuṭṭhāna-rūpa) by root condition. A phenomenon that is both a hindrance and favorable to hindrances is a condition for a phenomenon that is both a hindrance and favorable to hindrances and for a phenomenon that is favorable to hindrances but not a hindrance by root condition: roots that are both hindrances and favorable to hindrances are a condition for the associated aggregates, for the hindrances, and for mind-originated forms by root condition. A phenomenon that is favorable to hindrances but not a hindrance is a condition for a phenomenon that is favorable to hindrances but not a hindrance by root condition: roots that are favorable to hindrances but not hindrances are a condition for the associated aggregates and for mind-originated forms by root condition. Rebirth-linking (paṭisandhi).
