[303] In dependence on a non-derived phenomenon (no-upādā dhamma), a non-derived phenomenon arises, not by faculty condition (na-indriyapaccayā): [in dependence on] external … nutriment-originated (āhārasamuṭṭhāna) … one temperature-originated (utusamuṭṭhāna) primary element (mahābhūta) … .
In dependence on a non-derived phenomenon, a derived phenomenon (upādā dhamma) arises, not by faculty condition: [in dependence on] the external primary elements … the nutriment-originated … the temperature-originated … ; for the non-percipient beings (asaññasattā), in dependence on the primary elements, the material life-faculty (rūpajīvitindriya) [arises].
