[521] A defiled phenomenon (saṅkiliṭṭha dhamma) arises conjoined (saṃsaṭṭha) with a defiled phenomenon, not by root condition (na-hetupaccaya): delusion (moha) accompanied by doubt (vicikicchā), accompanied by restlessness (uddhacca), [arises] conjoined with the aggregates (khandhā) accompanied by doubt, accompanied by restlessness.
An undefiled phenomenon (asaṅkiliṭṭha dhamma) arises conjoined with an undefiled phenomenon, not by root condition: three aggregates [arise] conjoined with one rootless (ahetuka) undefiled aggregate; with two aggregates …. Rootless rebirth-linking (ahetuka-paṭisandhi).
