[550] A phenomenon (dhamma) that is both defilement (kilesa) and defiled (saṅkiliṭṭha) is a condition for a phenomenon that is both defilement and defiled by root condition (hetu-paccaya):
That is, roots (hetū) that are both defilements and defiled are a condition for the associated (sampayuttaka) defilements by root condition.
A phenomenon that is both defilement and defiled is a condition for a phenomenon that is defiled but not defilement by root condition:
That is, roots that are both defilements and defiled are a condition for the associated aggregates (khandhā) by root condition.
A phenomenon that is both defilement and defiled is a condition for a phenomenon that is both defilement and defiled and for a phenomenon that is defiled but not defilement by root condition:
That is, roots that are both defilements and defiled are a condition for the associated aggregates and for the defilements by root condition.
