[832] A phenomenon (dhamma) that leads out (niyyānika) is a condition for a phenomenon that leads out by decisive-support condition (upanissaya-paccaya). Natural decisive-support (pakatūpanissaya): the first path (magga) is a condition for the second path by decisive-support condition … the third path is a condition for the fourth path by decisive-support condition.
A phenomenon that leads out is a condition for a phenomenon that does not lead out (aniyyānika) by decisive-support condition. Object decisive-support (ārammaṇūpanissaya), proximity decisive-support (anantarūpanissaya), natural decisive-support … Natural decisive-support: the noble ones (ariyā), in dependence on the path, produce an attainment (samāpatti) that has not yet arisen, enter upon one that has arisen, contemplate formations (saṅkhāra) with insight as impermanent. The path is a condition for the noble ones' discrimination of meanings (attha-paṭisambhidā), discrimination of ideas (dhamma-paṭisambhidā), discrimination of language (nirutti-paṭisambhidā), discrimination of sagacity (paṭibhāna-paṭisambhidā), and skill in the possible and the impossible (ṭhānāṭhāna-kosalla) by decisive-support condition. The path is a condition for the attainment of fruition (phala-samāpatti) by decisive-support condition.
A phenomenon that does not lead out is a condition for a phenomenon that does not lead out by decisive-support condition. Object decisive-support, proximity decisive-support, natural decisive-support … Natural decisive-support: in dependence on faith (saddhā) that does not lead out, one gives a gift (dāna) … virtue (sīla), the uposatha observance (uposathakamma), jhāna, insight (vipassanā), superknowledge (abhiññā) … produces an attainment, fosters conceit (māna), grasps a view (diṭṭhi). In dependence on virtue that does not lead out … wisdom (paññā), lust (rāga), longing (patthanā), climate (utu), food (bhojana) … lodging (senāsana), one gives a gift … produces an attainment, kills a living being … causes schism in the Saṅgha. Faith that does not lead out … lodging is a condition for faith that does not lead out … for longing … for bodily pleasure (sukha), for bodily pain (dukkha), for the attainment of fruition by decisive-support condition.
