[856] Dependent on a phenomenon (dhamma) connected with conflict (saraṇa), a phenomenon connected with conflict arises by non-root condition (na-hetupaccaya): dependent on the aggregates (khandhā) accompanied by doubt (vicikicchā) [or] accompanied by restlessness (uddhacca), there arises the delusion (moha) accompanied by doubt [or] accompanied by restlessness.
Dependent on a phenomenon free from conflict (araṇa), a phenomenon free from conflict arises by non-root condition: dependent on one rootless (ahetuka) aggregate that is free from conflict, [there arise] three aggregates and mind-originated form (cittasamuṭṭhāna rūpa); rootless rebirth-linking (paṭisandhi) … up to the non-percipient beings (asaññasattā).
