[865] A phenomenon with conflict (saraṇa dhamma) is a condition for a phenomenon with conflict by way of object condition (ārammaṇa-paccaya): One relishes and delights in lust (rāga); taking that as object, lust arises; view (diṭṭhi) … doubt (vicikicchā) … restlessness (uddhacca) … grief (domanassa) arises. One relishes and delights in view; doubt … restlessness …; taking grief as object, grief arises; view … doubt … restlessness arises. [The elided clauses complete the formula for view and apply it distributively to doubt and restlessness as objects, just as it is spelled out here for grief.]
A phenomenon with conflict is a condition for a phenomenon without conflict (araṇa) by way of object condition: The noble ones: the defilements (kilesa) that have been abandoned … the defilements that have been suppressed … formerly …; they see with insight the aggregates (khandha) with conflict as impermanent …. With penetration of the minds of others (cetopariyañāṇa) they know the mind (citta) of one possessed of a mind with conflict. The aggregates with conflict are a condition, by way of object condition, for penetration of the minds of others, for knowledge of reminiscence of past lives (pubbenivāsānussati-ñāṇa), for knowledge of faring according to kamma (yathākammūpaga-ñāṇa), for knowledge of the future (anāgataṃsa-ñāṇa), and for adverting (āvajjana).
A phenomenon without conflict is a condition for a phenomenon without conflict by way of object condition: A gift (dāna) … virtue (sīla) …; having performed the uposatha observance (uposathakamma), one reviews it. Formerly … from jhāna …. The noble ones, having emerged from the path (magga), review the path; the fruition (phala) …; they review Nibbāna. Nibbāna is a condition, by way of object condition, for change-of-lineage (gotrabhū), for cleansing (vodāna), for the path, for the fruition, and for adverting. The eye … the base (vatthu) …; they see with insight the aggregates without conflict as impermanent … … With the divine eye (dibbacakkhu) … [this] is a condition, by way of object condition, for knowledge of the future and for adverting.
