[575] A phenomenon (dhamma) to be abandoned by seeing (dassanena pahātabba) is a condition (paccaya), by object condition (ārammaṇa-paccaya), for a phenomenon to be abandoned by seeing:
One relishes and delights in lust (rāga) that is to be abandoned by seeing; with that as object, lust to be abandoned by seeing arises, wrong view (diṭṭhi) … doubt (vicikicchā) … grief (domanassa) to be abandoned by seeing arises. One relishes and delights in wrong view that is to be abandoned by seeing; with that as object, lust to be abandoned by seeing arises, wrong view … doubt … grief to be abandoned by seeing arises. With doubt as object, doubt arises, wrong view … grief arises. With grief to be abandoned by seeing as object, grief to be abandoned by seeing arises, wrong view arises, doubt arises.
A phenomenon to be abandoned by seeing is a condition, by object condition, for a phenomenon not to be abandoned by seeing:
Noble ones review the abandoned defilements (kilesa) that are to be abandoned by seeing, those formerly indulged in … They see with insight the aggregates (khandhā) to be abandoned by seeing as impermanent … With the knowledge of penetration of others' minds (cetopariyañāṇa) they know the mind (citta) of one possessed of a mind to be abandoned by seeing. Aggregates to be abandoned by seeing are a condition, by object condition, for the knowledge of penetration of others' minds, for the knowledge of recollection of past lives (pubbenivāsānussati-ñāṇa), for the knowledge of beings faring according to their kamma (yathākammupaga-ñāṇa), for the knowledge of the future (anāgataṃsa-ñāṇa), and for adverting (āvajjanā).
A phenomenon not to be abandoned by seeing is a condition, by object condition, for a phenomenon not to be abandoned by seeing:
A gift (dāna) … virtue (sīla) … having performed the uposatha observance (uposathakamma), one reviews it, relishes and delights in it; with that as object, lust not to be abandoned by seeing arises, grief not to be abandoned by seeing arises. Things formerly well done … from jhāna … Noble ones, having emerged from the path (magga), review the path … [this] is a condition, by object condition, for fruition (phala) and for adverting. Noble ones review the abandoned defilements that are not to be abandoned by seeing; they review the suppressed defilements; formerly … The eye … the base (vatthu) … they see with insight the aggregates not to be abandoned by seeing as impermanent …; they relish and delight in them; with that as object, lust not to be abandoned by seeing arises, restlessness (uddhacca) … grief not to be abandoned by seeing arises. With the divine eye … [this] is a condition, by object condition, for the knowledge of the future and for adverting.
A phenomenon not to be abandoned by seeing is a condition, by object condition, for a phenomenon to be abandoned by seeing:
A gift … virtue … the uposatha observance … formerly … from jhāna … the eye … the base … one relishes and delights in the aggregates not to be abandoned by seeing; with that as object, lust to be abandoned by seeing arises, wrong view … doubt … grief to be abandoned by seeing arises.
