[595] A phenomenon (dhamma) to be abandoned by development (bhāvanāya pahātabba) is a condition for a phenomenon to be abandoned by development by way of object condition (ārammaṇa-paccaya): one relishes and delights in lust (rāga) to be abandoned by development; taking that as object, lust to be abandoned by development …, restlessness (uddhacca) …, grief (domanassa) to be abandoned by development … Taking restlessness as object, restlessness arises, grief to be abandoned by development arises. Taking grief to be abandoned by development as object, grief to be abandoned by development …, restlessness arises.

By the knowledge of others' minds (cetopariyañāṇa) they know the mind (citta) of one endowed with a mind to be abandoned by development. Aggregates to be abandoned by development are a condition for the knowledge of others' minds, for the knowledge of the recollection of past lives (pubbenivāsānussatiñāṇa), … for the knowledge of the future (anāgataṃsañāṇa), and for adverting (āvajjana), by way of object condition.

[What was done] formerly …; [having emerged] from jhāna …; the noble ones, having emerged from the path (magga), … [the path] is a condition for the fruition (phala) and for adverting, by way of object condition. The noble ones [review] defilements not to be abandoned by development that have been abandoned, …; the eye …, the (heart-)base (vatthu) …, they see with insight the aggregates not to be abandoned by development as impermanent, …; they relish and delight in [them]; taking that as object, lust not to be abandoned by development arises, view …, doubt …, grief not to be abandoned by development arises. With the divine eye (dibbacakkhu) …, [these] are a condition for the knowledge of faring according to kamma (yathākammupagañāṇa), for the knowledge of the future, and for adverting, by way of object condition.
