[17] Dependent on a phenomenon (dhamma) that is not defiled and subject to defilement (na-saṅkiliṭṭhasaṅkilesika), a phenomenon that is not defiled and subject to defilement arises by root condition (hetupaccayā). Dependent on a phenomenon that is not undefiled but subject to defilement (na-asaṅkiliṭṭhasaṅkilesika), a phenomenon that is not undefiled but subject to defilement arises by root condition. Dependent on a phenomenon that is not undefiled and not subject to defilement (na-asaṅkiliṭṭha-asaṅkilesika), a phenomenon that is not undefiled and not subject to defilement arises by root condition.
