[379] The Saṅgha should be informed by a competent and capable bhikkhu: "Venerable sirs, let the Saṅgha listen to me. This bhikkhu Udāyi has committed one offence (āpatti): intentional emission of semen (sañcetanikā sukkavisaṭṭhi), unconcealed. He asks the Saṅgha for six nights' probation (mānatta) for the one offence of intentional emission of semen, unconcealed. If it is opportune for the Saṅgha, the Saṅgha should give the bhikkhu Udāyi six nights' probation for the one offence of intentional emission of semen, unconcealed. This is the motion (ñatti). "Venerable sirs, let the Saṅgha listen to me. This bhikkhu Udāyi has committed one offence: intentional emission of semen, unconcealed. He asks the Saṅgha for six nights' probation for the one offence of intentional emission of semen, unconcealed. The Saṅgha gives the bhikkhu Udāyi six nights' probation for the one offence of intentional emission of semen, unconcealed. Whichever venerable one approves of the giving of six nights' probation to the bhikkhu Udāyi for the one offence of intentional emission of semen, unconcealed, let him be silent; whoever does not approve, let him speak. "A second time I speak on this matter. Venerable sirs, let the Saṅgha listen to me. "A third time I speak on this matter. Venerable sirs, let the Saṅgha listen to me. "Six nights' probation has been given by the Saṅgha to the bhikkhu Udāyi for the one offence of intentional emission of semen, unconcealed. The Saṅgha approves; therefore it is silent. Thus I hold this to be so."
