[407] "And thus, bhikkhus, should the six nights' penance (mānatta) be given. Bhikkhus, that bhikkhu Udāyī should approach the Saṅgha, arrange his upper robe over one shoulder, pay homage at the feet of the senior bhikkhus, sit on his heels, raise his joined palms, and address it thus: 'Venerable sirs, I committed one offense (āpatti) of intentional emission of semen (sañcetanikā sukkavisaṭṭhi), concealed for five days … Having completed probation (parivāsa), I requested from the Saṅgha six nights' penance for the three offenses; the Saṅgha gave me six nights' penance for the three offenses. While undergoing the penance, I committed in the interval one offense of intentional emission of semen, unconcealed. For that one offense committed in the interval, of intentional emission of semen, unconcealed, I requested from the Saṅgha the sending back to the beginning (mūlāya paṭikassana). For that one offense committed in the interval, of intentional emission of semen, unconcealed, the Saṅgha sent me back to the beginning. Venerable sirs, I request from the Saṅgha six nights' penance for that one offense committed in the interval, of intentional emission of semen, unconcealed.' It should be requested a second time; it should be requested a third time.
