[42] And thus, bhikkhus, should it be revoked. Bhikkhus, those bhikkhus of the faction of Paṇḍuka and Lohitaka should approach the Saṅgha (saṅgha), arrange their upper robes over one shoulder, pay homage at the feet of the senior bhikkhus, squat down on their heels, raise their joined palms, and say this: "Venerable sirs, we, having had an act of censure (tajjanīyakamma) imposed on us by the Saṅgha, are conducting ourselves properly, we have become subdued, we are conducting ourselves so as to deserve release; we ask for the revocation of the act of censure." A second time it should be requested. A third time it should be requested.
The Saṅgha should be informed by a competent and capable bhikkhu: "Venerable sirs, let the Saṅgha listen to me. These bhikkhus of the faction of Paṇḍuka and Lohitaka, having had an act of censure imposed on them by the Saṅgha, are conducting themselves properly, they have become subdued, they are conducting themselves so as to deserve release, and they ask for the revocation of the act of censure. If it seems right to the Saṅgha, let the Saṅgha revoke the act of censure for the bhikkhus of the faction of Paṇḍuka and Lohitaka. This is the motion (ñatti).
"Venerable sirs, let the Saṅgha listen to me. These bhikkhus of the faction of Paṇḍuka and Lohitaka, having had an act of censure imposed on them by the Saṅgha, are conducting themselves properly, they have become subdued, they are conducting themselves so as to deserve release, and they ask for the revocation of the act of censure. The Saṅgha revokes the act of censure for the bhikkhus of the faction of Paṇḍuka and Lohitaka. To whichever venerable one the revocation of the act of censure for the bhikkhus of the faction of Paṇḍuka and Lohitaka is agreeable, let him be silent; to whomever it is not agreeable, let him speak.
"A second time I speak on this matter: Venerable sirs, let the Saṅgha listen to me … To whichever venerable one the revocation of the act of censure for the bhikkhus of the faction of Paṇḍuka and Lohitaka is agreeable, let him be silent; to whomever it is not agreeable, let him speak.
"A third time I speak on this matter: Venerable sirs, let the Saṅgha listen to me. These bhikkhus of the faction of Paṇḍuka and Lohitaka, having had an act of censure imposed on them by the Saṅgha, are conducting themselves properly, they have become subdued, they are conducting themselves so as to deserve release, and they ask for the revocation of the act of censure. The Saṅgha revokes the act of censure for the bhikkhus of the faction of Paṇḍuka and Lohitaka. To whichever venerable one the revocation of the act of censure for the bhikkhus of the faction of Paṇḍuka and Lohitaka is agreeable, let him be silent; to whomever it is not agreeable, let him speak.
"The act of censure for the bhikkhus of the faction of Paṇḍuka and Lohitaka has been revoked by the Saṅgha. It is agreeable to the Saṅgha; therefore it is silent. Thus do I hold it."
