[484] Bhikkhus, here again a bhikkhu, while undergoing penance (mānatta), disrobes. Bhikkhus, for one who has disrobed, the undergoing of penance does not take effect. If he receives higher ordination (upasampadā) again, that very same former grant of probation (parivāsa) stands for him. The probation that was given is well given; that which has been observed is well observed. The penance that was given is well given; that which has been undergone is well undergone. The remainder should be undergone.
