[485] Bhikkhus, here again a bhikkhu, while undertaking mānatta, becomes a novice (sāmaṇera) … becomes insane … becomes deranged in mind … is afflicted by feeling (vedanā) … is suspended for not seeing an offence … is suspended for not making amends for an offence … is suspended for not relinquishing an evil view. Bhikkhus, the undertaking of mānatta by one who is suspended does not count. If he is later reinstated, that very same former grant of probation (parivāsa) still stands for him. The probation that was granted is well granted; that which has been observed is well observed. The mānatta that was granted is well granted; that mānatta which has been undertaken is well undertaken. The remainder is to be undertaken.
