[191] Now at that time bhikkhus, relieving themselves in the open air, were troubled both by cold and by heat. Those bhikkhus reported this matter to the Blessed One. … "Bhikkhus, I allow a privy (vaccakuṭī)."
The privy had no door-panel. … "Bhikkhus, I allow a door-panel (kavāṭa), a door-frame (piṭṭhasaṅghāṭa), a lower pivot-socket (udukkhalika), an upper pivot-socket (uttarapāsaka), a bolt-post (aggaḷavaṭṭi), a 'monkey's-head' bolt-catch (kapisīsaka), a pin (sūcika), a latch (ghaṭika), a keyhole (tālacchidda), a hole for the pulling-cord (āviñchanacchidda), and a pulling-cord (āviñchanarajju)."
Grass-powder kept falling down in the privy. … "Bhikkhus, I allow you, having covered it over (ogumbetvā), to make it plastered within and without, (with) white colouring, black colouring, treatment with red ochre (geruka), garland-work, creeper-work, makara-teeth pattern, the five-strip design (pañcapaṭṭhika), a bamboo robe-rail (cīvaravaṃsa), and a robe-line (cīvararajju)."
