[498] Because of charging a bhikkhu with a groundless case of pārājika, one incurs three offenses (āpatti): if, without having had leave granted, he speaks with the intention of making him fall away (from the monkhood), there is an offense of wrong-doing (dukkaṭa) together with the offense entailing a formal meeting of the Saṅgha (saṅghādisesa); if, having had leave granted, he speaks with the intention of abusing, there is the offense of insulting speech (omasavāda).
