[381] "**Saṅghādisesa**" means: the Saṅgha alone, in respect of that offense … [elided in the Pali (pe)]¹ … For this reason too it is called "saṅghādisesa."
¹ The Pali here abbreviates (peyyāla) the standard word-gloss given in full at the first Saṅghādisesa rule: "'Saṅghādisesa' means: the Saṅgha alone, in respect of that offense, grants probation (parivāsa), sends back to the beginning (mūlāya paṭikassanā), imposes penance (mānatta), and rehabilitates (abbhāna); not several persons, not a single person — therefore it is called 'saṅghādisesa.' It is the designation, the appellation, of that very class of offense — for this reason too it is called 'saṅghādisesa.'"
