[417] **"Whoever"** means: whoever, of whatever sort … **"Bhikkhu"** means: … this is the bhikkhu intended in this sense as "bhikkhu." **"Overcome"** means: impassioned, full of desire, with a mind (citta) bound in attachment. **"Perverted"**: a lustful mind is also perverted; a corrupt (hating) mind is also perverted; a deluded mind is also perverted. However, it is the lustful mind that is intended in this sense as "perverted." **"Woman"** means: a human female, not a female yakkha, not a female peta, not a female animal; one who is intelligent, competent to understand what is well spoken and badly spoken, what is lewd and what is not lewd. **"In the presence of a woman"** means: close by a woman, not far from a woman. **"Sensual gratification for himself"** means: sensual pleasure for himself, for his own sake, with his own intent, service (ministering) to himself. **"This is the foremost"** means: this is the foremost, this is the best, this is the chief, this is the highest, this is the most excellent. **"She who"** means: whether a khattiya woman, or a brāhmaṇa woman, or a vessa woman, or a sudda woman. **"One such as I"** means: whether a khattiya, or a brāhmaṇa, or a vessa, or a sudda. **"Virtuous"** means: one who abstains from killing living beings, abstains from taking what is not given, abstains from false speech. **"Living the celibate life"** means: one who abstains from sexual intercourse. **"Of good character"** means: by that virtue and by that celibate life he is one of good character. **"With this act"** means: with sexual intercourse. **"Should minister"** means: should indulge (in it). **"Connected with sexual intercourse"** means: bound up with the act of sexual intercourse. **"Saṅghādisesa"** means: … therefore too it is called "saṅghādisesa."
