[431] There are ten kinds of wives: one bought with money (dhanakkītā), one who lives with a man by her own desire (chandavāsinī), one who lives with him for the sake of wealth (bhogavāsinī), one who lives with him for the sake of cloth (paṭavāsinī), one wedded by the water-bowl ceremony (odapattakinī), one whose head-pad has been set down (obhatacumbaṭā), one who is both a slave and a wife (dāsī ca bhariyā), one who is both a worker and a wife (kammakārī ca bhariyā), one brought captive under the banner (dhajāhaṭā), and a momentary wife (muhuttikā).
