[575] "Pretext of characteristic" (liṅgaleso) means: a tall one was seen … a short one was seen … a dark one was seen … a fair one was seen committing an act entailing pārājika. Having seen another fair one, he accuses him: "A fair one was seen by me; you have committed an act entailing pārājika; you are not an ascetic, you are not a son of the Sakyan … [there is no uposatha, no pavāraṇā,] or act of the Saṅgha [in common with you]" — there is an offence of saṅghādisesa for each utterance.
