[229] There are, friends, four dhammas rightly proclaimed by that Blessed One who knows and sees, the Arahant (arahant), the Perfectly Awakened One; therein all should recite in concert … for the good, for the welfare, for the happiness of gods and humans. Which four? The four establishments of mindfulness (satipaṭṭhāna). Here, friends, a bhikkhu dwells contemplating the body in the body (kāyānupassanā) — ardent (ātāpī), clearly comprehending (sampajāno), mindful (satimā) — having removed covetousness and grief regarding the world (abhijjhā-domanassa). In feelings (vedanā), [contemplating] feeling …. In mind (citta), [contemplating] mind …. He dwells contemplating dhammas in dhammas — ardent, clearly comprehending, mindful — having removed covetousness and grief regarding the world.
