Vibhaṅgavagga

Suttapiṭaka · Majjhimanikāya · Vol. 14 · Section 531

[531] And how, bhikkhus, does one not anticipate the future? Thinking, 'May I have such form (rūpa) in the future,' one does not muster delight (nandī) in that; 'May I have such feeling (vedanā) …'; 'May I have such perception (saññā) …'; 'May I have such volitional formations (saṅkhārā) …'; 'May I have such consciousness (viññāṇa) in the future,' one does not muster delight in that. Thus, bhikkhus, one does not anticipate the future.
