[574] "And how, bhikkhu, does one anticipate the future? Thinking, 'May I have such form (rūpa) in the future time,' one directs delight (nandi) thereto; thinking, 'May I have such feeling (vedanā) …'; thinking, 'May I have such perception (saññā) …'; thinking, 'May I have such volitional formations (saṅkhārā) …'; thinking, 'May I have such consciousness (viññāṇa) in the future time,' one directs delight thereto. Thus indeed, bhikkhu, does one anticipate the future."
