[549] Standing to one side, that deity (devatā) said this to the Venerable Samiddhi: "Bhikkhu, do you remember the summary recital (uddesa) and the analysis (vibhaṅga) of the one who has one auspicious night (bhaddekaratta)?"
"Friend, I do not remember the summary recital and the analysis of the one who has one auspicious night. But do you, friend, remember the summary recital and the analysis of the one who has one auspicious night?"
"Bhikkhu, I too do not remember the summary recital and the analysis of the one who has one auspicious night. But do you, bhikkhu, remember the verses on the one who has one auspicious night?"
"Friend, I do not remember the verses on the one who has one auspicious night. But do you, friend, remember the verses on the one who has one auspicious night?"
"Bhikkhu, I too do not remember the verses on the one who has one auspicious night. Learn, bhikkhu, the summary recital and the analysis of the one who has one auspicious night; master, bhikkhu, the summary recital and the analysis of the one who has one auspicious night; remember, bhikkhu, the summary recital and the analysis of the one who has one auspicious night. Bhikkhu, the summary recital and the analysis of the one who has one auspicious night are connected with benefit and belong to the fundamentals of the holy life (brahmacariya)."
Thus spoke that deity; and having said this, the deity vanished right there.
