[306] There the Blessed One … "Bhikkhus, whatever ascetics (samaṇa) or brahmins (brāhmaṇa) do not understand aging and death (jarā-maraṇa), do not understand the origin of aging and death, do not understand the cessation of aging and death, and do not understand the way of practice (paṭipadā) leading to the cessation of aging and death — these, bhikkhus, I do not consider to be ascetics among ascetics or brahmins among brahmins; nor do those venerable ones, by realizing it for themselves with direct knowledge (abhiññā), in this very life enter upon and dwell in the goal of asceticism or the goal of brahminhood."
