[307] Bhikkhus, but whatever ascetics or brahmins understand aging and death (jarāmaraṇa) … — these ascetics or brahmins, bhikkhus, are reckoned as ascetics among ascetics and reckoned as brahmins among brahmins; and these venerable ones, having realized it for themselves with direct knowledge (abhiññā) in this very life, enter upon and dwell in the goal of asceticism and the goal of brahminhood.
