[369] Bhikkhus, just as excrement flows together and unites with excrement, urine flows together and unites with urine, spittle flows together and unites with spittle, pus flows together and unites with pus, and blood flows together and unites with blood — so too, bhikkhus, it is precisely by way of elements (dhātu) that beings flow together and unite: those of inferior disposition flow together and unite with those of inferior disposition. In the past period of time too ... in the future period of time too ... in the present period of time too, it is precisely by way of elements that beings flow together and unite: those of inferior disposition flow together and unite with those of inferior disposition.
