[156] Setting at Sāvatthī. Bhikkhus, one thing is of great help for the arising of the noble eightfold path (magga). What one thing? Namely, good friendship (kalyāṇamittatā). Bhikkhus, when a bhikkhu has a good friend, it can be expected that he will develop the noble eightfold path, that he will cultivate the noble eightfold path.
