[198] "And how, bhikkhus, does a bhikkhu who is developing the Noble Eightfold Path (ariya aṭṭhaṅgika magga), who is cultivating the Noble Eightfold Path, come to slant toward Nibbāna, slope toward Nibbāna, incline toward Nibbāna? Here, bhikkhus, a bhikkhu develops right view (sammādiṭṭhi) dependent on seclusion (viveka), dependent on dispassion (virāga), dependent on cessation, maturing in relinquishment (vossaggapariṇāmiṃ) … he develops right concentration (sammāsamādhi) dependent on seclusion, dependent on dispassion, dependent on cessation, maturing in relinquishment. It is in this way, bhikkhus, that a bhikkhu who is developing the Noble Eightfold Path, who is cultivating the Noble Eightfold Path, slants toward Nibbāna, slopes toward Nibbāna, inclines toward Nibbāna." The section of the Gaṅgā Repetition Series (Gaṅgāpeyyāla), written down in brief, is to be expanded in full according to the repetition scheme. Its summary verse (uddāna): Six slanting toward the east, six slanting toward the ocean; these two [sets of] dhammas make ten [sic; i.e., twelve], and thus the chapter is declared. The Gaṅgā Repetition Series: the recitation course on slanting eastward, the twelvefold set based on seclusion, the first.
