Suttapiṭaka · Saṁyuttanikāya · Mahāvaggasaṁyutta · Vol. 19 · Section 238

[238] And how, bhikkhus, does a bhikkhu, developing the noble eightfold path (ariya aṭṭhaṅgika magga), cultivating the noble eightfold path, become one who slants toward Nibbāna, slopes toward Nibbāna, inclines toward Nibbāna? Here, bhikkhus, a bhikkhu develops right view (sammādiṭṭhi), which slants toward Nibbāna, slopes toward Nibbāna, inclines toward Nibbāna … he develops right concentration (sammāsamādhi), which slants toward Nibbāna, slopes toward Nibbāna, inclines toward Nibbāna. It is thus, bhikkhus, that a bhikkhu, developing the noble eightfold path, cultivating the noble eightfold path, becomes one who slants toward Nibbāna, slopes toward Nibbāna, inclines toward Nibbāna.
