[207] And how, bhikkhus, does a bhikkhu, developing the Noble Eightfold Path (ariya aṭṭhaṅgika magga), cultivating the Noble Eightfold Path, become one who slants toward Nibbāna, slopes toward Nibbāna, inclines toward Nibbāna? Here, bhikkhus, a bhikkhu develops right view (sammādiṭṭhi), which has as its final goal the removal of lust (rāga), which has as its final goal the removal of hatred, which has as its final goal the removal of delusion … he develops right concentration (sammāsamādhi), which has as its final goal the removal of lust, which has as its final goal the removal of hatred, which has as its final goal the removal of delusion. It is in this way, bhikkhus, that a bhikkhu, developing the Noble Eightfold Path, cultivating the Noble Eightfold Path, becomes one who slants toward Nibbāna, slopes toward Nibbāna, inclines toward Nibbāna.
