[271] And how, bhikkhus, does a bhikkhu, depending upon virtue (sīla), established upon virtue, develop the Noble Eightfold Path (ariya aṭṭhaṅgika magga) and cultivate the Noble Eightfold Path? Here, bhikkhus, a bhikkhu develops right view (sammādiṭṭhi), which slants toward Nibbāna, slopes toward Nibbāna, inclines toward Nibbāna … he develops right concentration (sammāsamādhi), which slants toward Nibbāna, slopes toward Nibbāna, inclines toward Nibbāna. It is in this way, bhikkhus, that a bhikkhu, depending upon virtue, established upon virtue, develops the Noble Eightfold Path and cultivates the Noble Eightfold Path.
